From the spreading of music beyond borders to new releases from your favourite rappers, this week was fun. Read up on our round-up….
HOLY HOLY OXYGEN
Affine Records let loose of Holy Oxygen II this Friday. The 2nd EP in the series was recorded in 2015 but sounds as crisp as 2018 OkZharp would. The Austrian duo of The Clonius and Cid Rim handle production (they also handled it on the 1st) while the Internazionale Pantsula tongue foo kicks witty one liners. Sjambok Wireless for real yo.
The Night Show
It’s only been some hours since Castle Lite has announced their two headlining acts at their annual #CastleLiteUnlocks event – Travis Scott and Bryson Tiller – and the excitement from the masses is unreal. Castle Lite delivered a show of high quality last year with J. Cole – great sound, pristine visuals, and the continual enforcement of their extra cold theme with artificial snow. If the performer weren’t enough, then the brand’s execution definitely would have spoken to you in some way. This year, it’ll be interesting to view how they handle the trap audiences that’ll outweigh any other group by an easy stretch.
Show Me The Money
Mike WiLL Made-It has finally released the highly anticipated Ransom 2. The sequel to his previous mixtape is now a full length album aided by the lead single ‘Gucci On My’ featuring 21 Savage, YG and the Migos. Eardrumma’s have had a particularly active few months with releases by Rae Sremmurd late last year and Two-9 in February. Eardrumma Summer is upon us.
It’s that time again where rappers scramble to get their shit together before the obvious happens, the arrival of the almighty Kunta. K Dot just dropped The Heart Pt. IV on Thursday and the hilarious image above (sHouts to Q) is probably the thought on everyone’s minds. A continuation of the popular The Heart series from earlier on in his career, Kendrick sprays at everyone (damn Sean Don again lol) as this welcomed appetizer gears us up for his forthcoming release.
The Low End Theory in Joburg
No, not related to A Tribe Called Quest. If you’re looking for that Low End Theory in SA, a live performance of that will probably not happen. Daddy Kev, DJ Nobody, and D-Styles will be blessing Johannesburg’s soil next weekend in a 1-night only performance at INDUSTRY, courtesy of Kool Out Concept’s Alchemy. For the acclaim thet Low End Theory has received over the years, it’s exciting that their resident DJ’s and performers are going beyond borders with their music. The weekly experimental hip hop club will sprinkle some of magic in Joburg next week Friday.
