Weekly Music Round-Up

Posted on Posted in Music, News

The hiatus was brief, but the music was in abundance. Take a look at some of the drops that happened this past week in hip-hop.

Amerikan Badmon

Brooklyn’s – naw, scratch that maybe Pro Era’s – finest, Joey Bada$$ released his sophomore album ALL-AMERIKKKAN BADA$$ this week. Following the release of the singles ‘Land Of The Free’ and the Schoolboy Q assisted Rockabye Baby, Joey further illustrates his lyrical prowess on what might considered his strongest/most cohesive effort since 1999.

Tokyo Experience

It wouldn’t even be a reach to say that STRAFF is sprinting into 2017 with the kind of consistency that would make some of your favourites drool. Less than a month after his beautifully-crafted EP Vanilla Sky was released, and he’s just dropped his yet another single with the accompaniment of JethroFaded and go-to producer Remy Baggins. The song, titled ‘Hotel Tokyo’, is a musical journey in its own right, and is just as colorful as STRAFF’s previous releases much of which has also had the golden touch of Remy. It’s always tricky trying to keep the ball rolling after such strong project that was so rich in diversity – diversity in the sound and content, as well as in displaying exactly what STRAFF can do (he has both rap and production credits on Vanilla Sky), but that didn’t seem to faze the Lagos-based artist in the slightest. If anything, ‘Hotel Tokyo’ is merely a compressed display of all of that, with JethroFaded’s smooth vocals and Remy Baggins skilled production coming through equally as strong.

Roc La Future

Frank Ocean has been busy as of late. Just a few weeks after his feature on Calvin Harris’ ‘Slide’, Frank had Beats 1 radio shook last night when the third installment of blondedRADIO came full of surprises. Besides playing G Perico’s ‘My World Outro’ he also included a snippet of his new song called ‘Biking’ featuring Tyler The Creator & the almighty HOV. Unfortunately another Apple exclusive but because we’re The Influenced Life we got ya’ll.

Take Notes

In a kind of vengeful spew of lyrics, Tyson S.T. takes his listeners through a listening experience that they’d be sure to enjoy. ‘New Body,’ the new Doou$hii and IllRose-produced song is a 4-minute warning to the people that might not be aware that Tyson S.T is not only coming at the industry full force, but always won’t accept any kind of mimicry or distractions in his milieu. He’s confident and excited to share his skill. Stream the song above.

In some more exclusive news (lol), the last king of Brooklyn has finally had it with Apple after pulling the plug on his catalogue. Ironically enough this came shortly after the release of his song with Frank Ocean and Tyler, The Creator on Beats 1. If you’re like me and rely solely on Apple for music (this is the final straw ya’ll) you’ll notice once you connect to wi-fi all your JAY Z will not be available. Is Tidal really the only option for The Black Album now?
